What Is Full-time RVing?

Residing (living) all the time (full-time) in a recreational vehicle (RV).

Some full-time RVers move frequently. They spend a couple of days (or less) one place and then move to somewhere else. These folks are often new full-timers, so excited about their new lifestyle that they can’t wait to see the next place down the road. They often travel many thousands of miles each year.

At the opposite end of the extreme are RV dwellers who never or seldom move their RVs. These people sometimes don’t even own a vehicle they can use to move their RV. When (or if) they want to relocate, they hire someone to move their rig for them. Some wonder why, if they aren’t going to move frequently, people would live in an RV. It may be for economics. More likely, it is because they enjoy the camaraderie of being with other RVers and the atmosphere of the RV park where they stay. Even if they do not intend to move soon, these full-timers often like knowing their home is on wheels and they can move if they choose to.

The majority of full-timers fall somewhere in between. They might move every week or so. They might stay somewhere for a month before moving. Oftentimes, they change locations seasonally. A popular variation of that is traveling often during the summer and spending the winter at a snowbird destination park in the south. Or, vice versa, traveling during the winter, and summering in a northern community.

The most popular option of all is mixing travel patterns. After all, it is the freedom to move when and where they want – and to not move when they don’t want to – that calls many folks to the full-time RVing lifestyle in the first place.
